Summer Court Hat of the
Ch'ien-lung Emperor
Ch'ing Dynasty (A.D. 1644-
1911)
     This crown is shaped 
like a round cymbal.  It 
is made of red silk gauze 
on the inside and white 
cloth on the outside,  with 
a border of gold and black 
piping.   The upper side is 
embellished with vermilion 
threads.   The flat top is 
covered with tapestry satin.  
The finial's three layers 
are linked by three pearls, 
each   set  in  four  gold 
dragons     which     are 
embellished with pearls.
The  front of  the crown is
embellished  with a gold 
Buddha,   the  back  with 
miniature beads.
